Math Tutoring Approach
Back to home

My approach goes beyond the current homework assignment. I help students to understand the subject, to ask good questions and thereby to learn about learning.

Learning, not memorization

Many smart students become frustrated with math because they come to believe that math is something to memorize, not to understand. When students run into their limits of memorization, math becomes completely intractable; they become confused, frustrated and they learn to hate the subject. These students need individual help.

The "whys" AND the "hows"

My approach helps my students make sense of math, to see the patterns, to understand the reasoning behind the techniques. The result is more than a passing math grade -- students go forward with more self-confidence and a technique for doing better in future topics as well.

Successes

My success stories include public school and private school students as well as adults. Subjects have included Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and learning to use Analytical Software (Excel and Access). See quotes from students and parents
